Skinny Jeans Health Hazards

It is known to all that skinny jeans are not only meant for women. Many of the males in the society today, the teenagers in particular, are becoming obsessed in wearing tight jeans since it is in the current fashion trend. But little did they know that such type of apparel bring some health hazards.

Just this morning, while browsing online, I found this worth-sharing article featured in Yahoo.com regarding skinny jeans. It was stated that according to medical experts, there is an increase in injuries being caused by wearing of skinny or tight jeans.

For men, it is said that this particular type of denim pants is causing testicular torsion – a condition wherein the spermatic cord to a testicle is being twisted. Once the testicle is twisted, it cuts off the blood supply resulting to pain, swelling, and worse; gangrenes of testicle. Aside from affecting the testicle, men who are fond of wearing skinny jeans could also experience a weak bladder, urinary tract infections, and low sperm count.

Meanwhile, for women, wearing of skinny jeans could increase their chances to have a vaginal yeast infection.

Apart from the aforementioned side effects of tight or fitted jeans, this particular style of pants is also found to reduce blood circulation in legs and thighs, which then results to augmentation of cellulite. It could also cause lateral femoral cutaneous nerve entrapment that causes tingly sensation in the thighs. This condition happens when the wearer habitually put cellphone in the front pocket. Digestion problem is another side effect of high waisted skinny jeans and pressure on the urethra for low rise skinny jeans.

Knowing all those negative effects of constantly wearing skinny or fitted jeans, would you still put style before your health?

6 Good Reasons to Include Berries in Your Diet

How much do you know about berries? Are you aware that berries are fleshy fruits produced from a single ovary? Do you know that not all berries are perfectly round? That not all berries are sour? That some berries are poisonous to humans? And lastly; do you know that edible berries are also among those great fruits out there that are highly recommended by health professionals with Littmann steth hanging on neck?

Yes, professionals who expertly use Littmann steth would highly advise each and everyone to regularly eat berries such as blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries because they bring a lot of good benefits to the health. Among the top six good reasons of including berries in your diet are:
  • Can prevent mental decline and other age-related illnesses.  A new scientific review, which was published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, revealed that regular consumption of berries can help maintain good cognitive health because of their high levels of antioxidants, which helps protect cells from harmful free radicals that often cause inflammation in the brain and then resulting to neuronal damage.
  • Can help to keep a healthy and properly functioning digestive system. Berries contain high amount of fiber, which is very essential for a healthy diet. According to health experts with Littmann steth, insoluble fiber aids and speeds up the exertion of waste and toxins from the body. Soluble fibers, on the other hand, contribute to a healthy circulatory system by slowing down sugar absorption to maintain blood sugar to normal level, which is very beneficial for diabetic persons.
  • Help keep the tissues and blood vessels strong and healthy. Berries are known to have lots of tannin. Health professionals with Littmann steth hanging on their neck reveals that tannin is very essential in strengthening and tightening the various tissues of the body. Moreover, it also helps increase blood coagulation. With high amount of tannin in the body, cuts or wounds heal faster.
  • Can help promote a strong immune system and a healthy skin. Similar to other citrus fruits out there, berries are also an excellent source of vitamin C. Such vitamin is known for fighting off minor infections like sore throat, common cold, and irritation of the mouth. Vitamin C likewise helps in maintaining healthy and young looking skin.
  • Can help prevent the production growth of cancer causing cells. Aside from containing high amount of antioxidants, berries are also found to be rich in ellagic acid. These compounds are all beneficial in reducing free radicals that are known for developing cancer.
  • Can help promote a good urinary tract health. To patients with urinary tract infections or problems, health professionals who expertly use Littmann steth would recommend them to drink berries juice because in order to take advantage of the compounds that help prevent bacteria like E. coli from sticking on to the cells along the walls of urinary tract and often causes UTI.

Low Potassium Diet: Healthy Eating Plan for People with Kidney Disease

Most of the people nowadays are very much dependent on easy-to-prepare foods. So, it is no longer surprising if the prevalence of chronic illnesses just like kidney disease keep on rising. And since March 8 is World Kidney Day, I decided to feature here some low potassium foods for people with kidney problems.

Although potassium is the perfect mineral that helps keep the blood levels in a healthy range, excessive intake of it could also cause major kidney damage. This is the reason why the a low potassium diet (less than 100 mg per serving) is among the best healthy eating plans for people with kidney disease because the said organ can no longer remove the excess potassium in the urine.
Good Sources of Low Potassium Diet:
One-half cup of mandarin oranges (98 mg)
Ten small grapes (93 mg)
One-half cup of sweetened applesauce (78 mg)
One-half cup of fresh blueberries (63 mg)
One-half cup of red bell pepper (88 mg)
One-half cup of green cabbage (60mg)
One-half cup of boiled cauliflower (88 mg)
One clove of garlic (12 mg)
One-half cup of raspberries (93 mg)
One tablespoon of olive oil (less than 1 mg)
One-half cup of cucumber slices (88 mg)

Having Problems with Bowel Movement?

So you are having problems with your bowel movement? Being careful with the foods you ingest is the very first requirement.

So what are the foods that let you experience difficulties during defacation?

Well, these are the slow-digesting foods. These are foods that would take three to six hours before they are totally digested. Samples of these foods are pasteries, cakes, mayonnaise, strong cheese, meats, sausages, seafood, pulses (such as chickpeas and lentils, etc.), and oil nuts (like almonds, walnuts, etc.).

So what are the ideal foods to eat?

You need to select foods that are easy to digest such as veggies, cottage cheese, unsalted soft cheese, boiled egg, milk, flour, whole grains (like oats, wheat, rye, etc.), pasta soup, sweet dried fruits, and fresh seasonal fruit. All these foods take only about two hours to fully digest in your body.

5 Signs You Might Have a Chronic Disease

They say the best way to determine ones health condition is to consult a doctor because this professional has vast knowledge about human health. Every medical doctor is also equipped with a variety of high-end hospital medical equipments that can detect any abnormalities inside the body, especially for serious conditions wherein the patient experiences no signs or the symptoms are not revealed immediately. But do you know that there are some instances wherein even without using the most basic hospital medical equipment, one can also conclude whether something is abnormal in his or her body through the abnormal changes in ones physical appearance? Yes, that’s true! By merely looking at the appearance of a person or even without using hospital medical equipment, specialized doctor can say if the patient is suffering from a serious illness. Ok let’s start analyzing some of the abnormal changes that might be easily seen in a person's body.

Silvery Hair – This unusual change of a person’s hair is often associated with Griscelli syndrome or partial albinism with immunodeficiency. However, a person with silvery hair might be suffering also from Elejalde’s syndrome or a neuroectodermal melanolysosomal disease that is very common in Mexico.

Redness of Sclera – Sclera is the white outer layer of the eyeball. When this portion turns into red, this is an indication of an eye infection. However, for some instances, redness of sclera is also associated to other chronic diseases like Crohn’s disease, Reiter’s syndrome, Grave’s disease, etc.

Bronze Skin – A person whose skin colors appears in intense or metallic bronze is  often diagnosed with Addison’s disease. This disorder is involves a progressive destruction of the adrenal glands which then results to difficulty of secreting adrenocortical hormones. Bronze skin can also be associated with bronze baby syndrome,  hemochromatosis, chronic renal failure, biliary cirrhosis, or a drug reaction.

Yellow nails – Yellow or jaundice nails is often associated to a fungal infection. However, it can also indicate a more serious condition such as liver disease, lung disease, thyroid disorder, diabetes or psoriasis.

Reddish or “Strawberry” Hands – If the unusual changes of hands color is seen on children, this is often associated to an autoimmune disorder called Kawasaki disease. Inflammation of mid-sized blood vessels are not only seen in hands but throughout the body. Other conditions linked to inflamed hands are Raynaud’s syndrome, chronic liver disease, and other pregnancy-related issues for women.

Foods that Often Trigger Allergies

Some people are born to have some allergies on foods, others are on the weather. There are also some who are allergic to animal furs while others are to smoke, dust, or even medicines. There are so many types of allergens but the one common factor that triggers ones allergies are foods.

Food Allergy over Food Intoleranc:e:
Food allergy is often misinterpreted as food tolerance and vice versa. So before we proceed to foods that often causes allergy, let’s make a distinction first between these two terms. The condition is called food allergies when the person’s immune system has an abnormal reaction to a certain food. This means that eating even a tiny amount of food could set off an allergic reaction and symptoms could strike within minutes of digestion. However, when the reaction does not affect the immune system, then it is called food intolerance. This simply means that a person can still safely eat a little portion of so called “prohibited” foods.

Common Food Allergies:
Fish

About 7 million Americans are allergic to flesh proteins, which are found in fish. Those who are allergic to cod tend to have allergy in other fish such as hake, pike, carp, and whiting. Sometimes fish allergy is confused with histamine (scomboid) fish poisoning.

Shellfish
Allergy to shellfish is said to be lifelong. This simply means that when a person develops allergy to shellfish, there is a very little possibility that they will lose it. Shellfish includes crabs, shrimps, lobster, etc. About 60% of those with shellfish allergy would experience an allergic reaction during adulthood.

Eggs

Allergy on eggs usually affects young children. Most allergic reactions associated with egg involve the skin and it is also among the food allergies that are most likely to be outgrown before they reach adulthood. Approximately 1.5% of young children are reported to have allergies on eggs.

Nuts and Legumes
An estimate of 1.8 million Americans are allergic to nuts and legumes, which are primary storage of proteins. Nuts include walnut, almond, hazelnut, coconut, cashew, pistachio, and Brazil nuts. Peanuts, on the other hand, falls under legumes but the proteins present in peanuts are similar in structure to those in nuts. Allergy to peanuts is considered as lifelong.

Milk
This is another allergy-causing food that affects primarily the kids. According to studies, 90% of children with allergy on milk will lose the said aversion by the age of three.

Prevention:
So, are you allergic or your child has allergies on these mentioned foods? Then the surefire way prevent this condition is to stay away from these allergens.

Why is Proper Handwashing so Important for Nurses?

December 4-10 is credited as National Handwashing Awareness Week. The celebration aims to increase public awareness about the importance of handwashing. For health care workers such nurses, handwashing has been part of their standard operating procedure. For these professionals who often appear wearing a nursing scrubs and support hose, handwashing is a vital requirement since they have hands-on daily contact with their patients. And it is only through properly washing of hands before and after holding something in which they can control the spread of infection from one patient to another or from nurse to patient in the hospital.

Handwashing may seem to be just a very simple procedure for nurses in support hose but has a vital role in ensuring safety of their patients against infectious diseases. And while writing this article, I found this very interesting infographics regarding the different disease-causing agents that might exist in nurses’ hands once they failed to wash their hands.
Hepatitis A virus – this is among the infectious and epidemical viruses that attack the liver. It might exist in the hands of a person wearing a nursing scrubs and support hose since the mode of transmission is through fecal-oral route.

Staphylococcus – This bacteria that appear in grape-like clusters under the microscope are the most commonly causes of skin infection. It can be acquired from other person who are already infected by the said bacteria however, could be prevented if proper infection control will be observed.

Pseudomonas  -  This bacteria is commonly found not just in homes but also in hospitals. Hence; patients and health care workers wearing support hose are also susceptible to acquire this disease-causing pathogen. Pseudomonas is usually transmitted through direct contact but indirect contact is also possible.

Haemophilus – The bacteria is known for causing quite serious illnesses such as meningitis, epiglottitis, pneumonia, generalized infection, etc. Haemophilus bacteria, which are transmitted through direct contact, inhibit in the respiratory tract of healthy person and do not immediately revealed signs and symptoms.

Shigella – Shigella are contagious bacteria that primarily cause intestinal infection. A person infected by shigella bacteria will experience bloody diarrhea and severe intestinal pain. The bacteria is also transmitted through fecal-oral route hence; observing good sanitation such as proper handwashing is very important.

Streptococcus Pneumoniae – Also known as pneumococcus, this bacterium causes serious infections of the lungs, middle ear, lining of the brain, and bacteria. These pneumococcal diseases most commonly occur among young children but elderly or those with serious medical conditions or chronic disorders that primarily affect the lungs, heart, or kidney as well as those who are alcoholics, diabetics, with sickle cell anemia, and the likes. The bacteria is spread through airborne or direct exposure to the  respiratory droplets of infected person.

All these bacteria could be prevented if everyone will make it a habit to wash their hands before and after holding something.

At risk of hypertension or currently suffering from high blood pressure? Here’s good news to everyone! According to the book entitled The DASH Diet Action Plan: Based on the National Institutes of Health Research: Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, adopting healthy eating practices such as including more fruits and vegetables in everyday diet at the same time opting for low-fat or non-fat dairy, low-sodium diets  instead of processed foods are among the effective preventative measures to lower blood pressure and support healthy weight loss.

Below are some list of DASH diets (obtained from Yahoo! Health), which according to healthcare professionals who are expert in using stethoscopes when served correctly, they are guaranteed to lower the blood pressure level of an person.

4 Stalks of Celery a Day

Studies have shown that consumption of celery has a number of benefits to both man and animals. This food for lowering blood pressure is no longer new as Doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine has already been using celery or celery root to hypertensive patients for almost a century now because it is rich in phthalides, a phytochemical that helps relax the muscle tissue in the artery walls so as to increased blood flow.

2-6 Ounce of Cold Water Fish a Week
Doctors who use littmann cardiology stethoscopes and doctors who use fetoscopes both agreed that consumption of cold-water fish (2-6 ounce per week) really have health benefits. This type of fish is said to be rich in anti-inflammatory omega 3-fats that helps lower blood pressure and other toxins that causes heart attack and stroke.

1 Serving of Broccoli a Day
Being hailed as a super-food because of its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, the ability of broccoli to reduce the risk of hypertension is without doubt. Aside from antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, this super-food is also packed with lots of fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin C, which all helps normalize blood pressure.

3- 4 Cups of Whole Oats a Day
According to research, whole grain oats is full of fiber and magnesium that both have beneficial effects on blood pressure. Therefore, aiming for one serving of whole grain oats everyday can help reduce the person’s risk for high blood pressure. Besides lowering blood pressure, whole grain oats help slow atherosclerosis or the deposition of plaques of fatty materials in the inner walls of arteries.

1 Cup of Cooked Black Beans a Day
Including a cup of cooked black beans in everyday diet can help maintain the blood pressure at a normal level. Black beans are good sources of folate or folic acid, a B-complex vitamin that is very essential in maintaining the blood pressure at a normal and healthy level. Not to mention the great amount of fiber and magnesium that black beans provide.

1 Cup of Berries a Day
Whether they are fresh or frozen, most doctors using littmann cardiology stethoscopes would recommend their hypertensive patients to eat at least one serving or one cup of berries a day. Berries, either raspberry, blueberries, or strawberries are very rich in fiber, calcium, vitamin C, potassium and other antioxidants that help get rid of plaques buildup in the inner walls of arteries.

1 Serving of Low-Fat Dairy per Meal
Researches show that those who consume a serving of low-fat dairy per meal have lesser chances of incurring high blood pressure. Including low-fat dairy in everyday diet is imperative as it increases the bioavailability of calcium at the same time offer blood-pressure lowering calcium and potassium. Understanding the Disease that Ended Steve Jobs Life

It is already SOP in the blogger world to tackle issues that are in current trend so, I decided to write about what to expect when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - the disease that ultimately claimed the life of Apple CEO and founder, Steve Jobs.

By the way, let me give you first some insights about pancreas and its importance to our digestive system. The pancreas is the pear-shaped organ measuring about 6 inches long that lies behind the stomach and in front of the spine. It has two important roles played - to produce enzymes that are essential for metabolism and to produce hormones like insulin and glucagon, which ensures a balanced blood sugar level.

The pancreas is just one of the organs in the digestive system that is susceptible for an abnormal growth of cells or tumors. These tumors may come in various forms or characteristics. Some tumors are benign while others are malignant. There are also tumors that are common while others are rare. And in the case of Steve Jobs, medical practitioners who often come in a white lab coat and a littmann stethoscope hanging on their neck found a rare form of pancreatic tumor in the endocrine gland - the part of the pancreas that is responsible for producing insulin. What makes neuroendocrine pancreatic tumor rare is that is only 1 out of 100,000 people had this type of disease. Aside from that, the abnormal cell grows slowly and less aggressive, which is deemed as among that reasons why Steve Jobs was able to live 6 years longer the moment he was diagnosed.

According to healthcare professionals who basic medical instrument is a littmann stethoscope, people who are at risk to develop pancreatic cancer are those with:
  1. Damaged DNA mutation. This can be bother inherited from the parents or acquired as the person age
  2. Pancreatitis or inflammation of the pancreas. Although the reason is not yet clear, but chronic pancreatitis can lead to abnormal growth of cells in the pancreas.
  3. Diabetes. It appears to be a symptom for pancreatic cancer.
  4. Poor lifestyle. Eating fatty or carcinogenic foods, smoking cigarettes are just some unhealthy lifestyle habits that increases the risk for pancreatic cancer
  5. Chemical exposure. People who are exposed to hazardous chemicals like gasoline have bigger chances of developing pancreatic cancer.
What to expect when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer?
Signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer can only be seen/felt by the patient when the tumor has grown and spread out of the pancreas. The common signs and symptoms include:
  1. Yellowing of the skin, gums, and white of the eyes
  2. Constant lower back pain
  3. Sudden weight loss
  4. Loss of appetite
  5. Generalized body malaise or the feeling of weakness and discomfort
  6. Feeling of sickness in the stomach characterized by an urge to vomit

Simple Steps to Avoid Listeria

Listeriosis, an infection obtained from eating foods tainted by a bacterium called listeria monocytogenes, is dubbed as the leading cause of food-borne outbreak in the US for almost a decade now. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recent statistics on listeriosis case, 13 people have already been killed and more than 73 were still infected.

The bacterium listeria monocytogenes is found in both soil and water. The disease causing bacterium travels through the soil and manure, which causes contamination on root crops vegetables. The recent listeria outbreak in the US has been traced that the contaminated cantaloupes produced by Jensen Farms in Colorado were blamed for the deaths of 13 people and illnesses of 73 other people. So the department of health strictly warned the consumers to be cautious when buying melons and verify them if they comes from Jensen Farms. But aside from root crops and vegetables, animals can also carry the bacterium. Hence; there is a big possibility that the meat and dairy products from these animals could also be tainted.

Exposure to listeriosis can be prevented if everyone will only take some precautions such as:
Avoid eating raw or partially cooked food from animal sources.
Wash the root crops, vegetables, and fruits thoroughly before storing, cooking or eating.
Avoid unpasteurized milk or those foods made from raw milk.
Use separate knives, utensils, and cutting boards for meat and vegetables.

Consume first perishable and ready-to-eat foods.
Ensure proper storage of food in the refrigerator; uncooked meat should be separated from vegetables and cooked foods.
Always wash hands before and after handling raw or uncooked foods.

By keeping these simple tips in your mind, your chances of acquiring listeria is definitely reduced.

The Benefits of Drinking Water on Empty Stomach

This worth-sharing, healthy article that was shared by my friend Margie was the first thing that caught my attention while I was checking my facebook account this morning. The post is all about the numerous benefits of filling your empty stomach with water.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3.. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
2. Gastric (10 days)
3. Diabetes (30 days)
4. Constipation (10 days)
5. Cancer (180 days)
6. TB (90 days)
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards – daily..
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.
This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to everyone they know, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life.

Please be a true friend and send this article to all your friends you care about.

4 Ways to Combat Obesity

It has been a habit by many of us to eat too much.  Even if our stomach is already shouting that it is already full, we just don’t mind it because our mouth is still craving for more. And because of our overeating habit, we become unaware that we are already gaining extra weight.
A person carrying extra pounds, which are not essential to his or her body, is what we call obese or is suffering from obesity. Obesity is now becoming a major health problem in many countries and Philippines is no exemption. With obesity, so many life-threatening diseases may arise. So before the bad things happen to us, it is good if as early as now we start combating obesity. How we can do it? Continue reading below.

Switch hands
According to the recent study from Southern University of that was featured on CNN.com, people who snacked using their no dominant hands reduced about 30% of their total intake, compared with those using their dominant hands. One of the reasons being linked into technique this is that you are disrupted. So the tendency is to finish your eating immediately.

Use smaller plates and utensils
Switching to smaller plates and utensils will make you become more aware of your food serving. Even if you are still hungry, you will be reminded of your extra weight so the tendency is to let yourself be satisfied with just one small serving.

Avoid eating-while-watching TV
If it has been your habit to eat while in front of the television, start avoiding it now. Television is one of the many factors that distract one’s eating behavior. So the more you concentrate on watching your favorite TV shows, the more you forget the feeling of fullness. So what happen is you keep on eating until the serving is gone or until the show is over. And this lead to additional body weight.

Keep active
Sedentary lifestyle has long been associated to obesity. People who are physically inactive have greater chances of becoming obese compared to active ones because they fail to burn the calories they consumed. These unused calories will favorably affect body fat distribution at the same time contribute to the high prevalence of obesity.

Watch out Your Diet
Becoming about the caloric content of the foods you consume is another effective way to prevent obesity. According to the book Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It, the inclusion of too many refined carbohydrates in today’s meals or foods is among the primary reasons why obesity is becoming an epidemic. In this book written by Taubes, he said that if we will limit our carbohydrate intake leads the body to store excess energy in fat cells that then results to obesity.

Bronchopneumonia: The Disease that Caused the Death of Rock Legend Freddie Mercury

Today is supposedly Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday. So as a tribute, Google Doodle honored him by providing an animated video that appears over the Google logo featuring one of Queen’s greatest hits “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of rock band Queen, is just one of the few rock legends that I love. His ostentatious stage character and powerful vocals over a four-octave range made him famous around the globe. He was also a popular songwriter who composed some of Queen’s hit songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and We Are the Champion. In addition to his work, Mercury also led a solo career and occasionally served as a producer and guest musicians to other artists.
Despite his successful career in music industry, Freddie Mercury left his avid fans so soon. He died on November 24, 1991 at the age of 45 due to bronchopneumonia. According to medical doctors who are primarily authorized to use the littmann stethoscope, such disease that caused Freddie Mercury’s early death was induced by HIV/AIDS.
The Disease that Causes Freddie Mercury’s Death
Bronchopneumonia is an acute inflammation of the lungs caused by bacteria and considered as one of the most common death causing diseases brought by infection. The bacteria that primarily affect the bronchi (air passages of the lungs) and alveoli (air sacs) are usually acquired in the community. The most common bacteria that cause pneumonia are called streptococcus pneumoniae. But there are also other types of bacteria that could induce the said disease and this includes mycoplasma pneumoniae, haemophilus influenza, moraxella catarrhalis, and chlamydia pneumoniae.
The photos below compare the appearance of a healthy person's lungs and the lungs of a person with bronchopneumonia.
each healthy lung, which is 10-14 inches long, appears pink and sponge-like. the whole lungs have 2 large air passages called bronchi that lead to the right and left lung, 22 smaller tubes to reach the 100,000 very smallest tubes, and 1,000,00o alveoli or air sacs that looks like a cluster of grapes.
this is a closer view of lung that is infected by streptococcus pneumoniae, which invade the spaces between cells and between alveoli or air sacs through connecting pores.
How does Bronchopneumonia occur?

diagram source: wikipedia.org
Bacteria causing bronchopneumonia are usually transmitted through airborne droplets. When the bacteria from airborne droplets are inhaled by a person, they will reside in the upper respiratory tract such as nose, mouth, and sinuses. From that location, it is very easy for the bacteria to reach the alveoli and damage the spaces between air sacs through connecting pores as well as the spaces between cells. The invasion of bacteria causing bronchopneumonia induces the immune system to send neutrophils (a defensive white blood cell) to the lungs, which engulf and kill the offending organisms. Aside from that, cytokines are also released and this leads to general activation of the immune system. The neutrophils, bacteria, and fluid from surrounding blood vessels fill the alveoli and hinder oxygenation. And this abnormal transport of oxygen will result to death.

Risk Factors and Prevention

People who are at risk for this type of bacterial pneumonia are usually adults; those who are smoking; people with immunologic deficiency syndrome (which is the case of Mercury); and individuals who have long-term health conditions like heart failure, liver failure, diabetes, or lung disease.

In terms of preventative measure, this disease can now be avoided through vaccines like Pneumovax and Pnu-immune. These vaccines, which are intended for adults, help prevent infections caused by streptococcus pneumoniae. Meanwhile for children, a vaccine called Prevnar is also given for the prevention of pneumococcal disease.

Top Reasons to Add Dark Chocolates in Your Daily Diet

Many studies revealed that including a small amount of dark chocolate in your daily diet offers a number of health benefits. Dark chocolates contain a host of heart-healthy and mood-enhancing phytochemicals. To name some, we have phenols, flavonols, antioxidants, resveratrol, theobromine, caffeine, serotonin, etc.
I provided below some of the healthy benefits a person could get when he or she consumes a small serving of dark chocolates every day. By the way, a small serving simply means 30 calories of dark chocolate a day and that is just as big as Hershey’s bite-size chocolate KISSES.

  • Prevents Aging and Cancer – Dark chocolates are full of antioxidant and resveratrol. These are substances that protect the cells from chronic inflammation, heart disease, and cancer.
  • Lowers Blood Pressure – Dark chocolates are rich in cocoa phenols. These are protective compounds found in plants and fruits. They are known to help the body process nitric oxide. Nitric oxides are essential compounds that help increase blood circulation at the same time lower blood pressure.
  • Lowers LDL Cholesterol – Dark chocolates contain large quantities of flavonoids or flavonols. These are the same chemicals found in red wine that help lower low density lipoprotein (bad) cholesterol levels. One-third of dark chocolates fat is in the form of stearic acid, a naturally-occurring fat that exerts a neutral effect on LDL cholesterol levels.
  • Good for the Heart – Since dark chocolates contain ingredients that can help lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol at the same time improve blood flow; healthcare professionals who expertly use blood pressure device believe that this type of chocolate is definitely good for the heart.
  • Stimulates Pleasure and Relaxation – Dark chocolates contains a ingredient that induces the brain to release endorphin. Endorphin is naturally produced in the brain that stimulates pleasure and relaxation.

Eating Red Meat on Daily Basis Linked to Type 2 Diabetes, US Study Revealed

Next to water, protein is the most abundant substance found in our body. About 16.6 percent our body weight is made up of protein.

Getting enough protein and eating a balanced diet with adequate calories are very important in maintaining a healthy body. The amount of protein the person needs to consume will depend on his or her body size and special needs. According to healthcare professionals who are expert in using the different diagnostic tools like blood pressure tester, infants need need bigger percentage of protein in their daily diet simply because they are still at the stage of growing and building new protein tissue. Same with pregnant women, they need more protein not just for their body but also for the developing fetus in their womb.
  • an average adult needs 0.6-0.8 grams of protein for every kilogram (2.2 lbs.) of body his/her weight
  • infants may need as much as 2.0 grams per kilogram
  • adolescents need up to 1.2 grams per kilogram
  • pregnant and lactating women need an additional 10 grams per day
For a person to have enough amount of protein, they have to include protein-rich foods in their daily serving like red meat that comes from naturally raised/grass-fed animals (one of the best sources of protein).

But just recently, eating of red meat (whether it is processed or not) has been the talked in town after a research conducted by experts at the Harvard School of Public Health revealed that such source of protein can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Based on their study both the processed and unprocessed red meat can boost diabetes risk.

People who eat 50 grams of red meat every day like 2 slices of bacon or 1 hotdog, according to US study, increase their risk for type 2 diabetes by 51 percent while those who consume 100 mg of unprocessed meat boost their risk by 19 percent. Experts whose basic medical instruments are blood pressure tester and stethoscope believed that the substance found in red meat that could damage the cells of pancreas, is the main reason why it is increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The pancreas has an important function in our body system since it is responsible for producing enough insulin to process food intake and regulate blood sugar levels. Once it is damaged, type 2 diabetes or formerly called as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus will occur.

I have here a table (obtained from dietary fiber food site) for the daily recommended intake of protein for specific age, gender, and life stage group
